Proto-Finnic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Finno-Ugric *küje, but the form *kije fits other descendants better and would have given **kii in Finnic.

Alternatively, the word may be extracted from an old compound *küü-kärmeh, itself a shortening of *kivi-kärmeh (literally rock snake), as the snake is known to live near rocky areas to keep itself warm during spring [1]

Noun[edit]

*küü

  1. viper
