Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćāčáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱok-éye-ti, from *ḱek- (to be able, capable) +‎ *-éyeti. Compare Old Irish cécht (might, power),[1] Sanskrit शक् (śak, to be able).[2]
