Etymology[edit]

Formally from Proto-Indo-European *tréh₂yeti + *-jati, ye-present from Proto-Indo-European *treh₂- (to pass through). Cognate with Sanskrit त्रायते (trāyáte, to protect), possibly Latin intrāre (to enter).
