Proto-Tocharian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *dn̥ǵʰwéh₂s, hence supposedly from earlier *tänkwo. However, as Tocharian is commonly thought to have split off of the Indo-European trunk right after Anatolian (where the root isn't attested), the original order of the consonants is arguably indeterminate.

Noun[edit]

*käntwo

  1. tongue
  2. language

Descendants[edit]

  • Tocharian A: käntu
  • Tocharian B: kantwo
