PIE etymology[edit]

It is said that this word comes "from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrowgʰ-os, from *dʰrewgʰ- (loyal)", but if we go there we see: *dʰrówgʰos "a deception, falsehood, lie", *dʰrewgʰ- "to deceive, to mislead" with no links to the Balto-Slavic word. How these meanings are compatible with the meaning in Balto-Slavic? By the way there is Proto-Germanic entry *triwwiz with one of the meanings "faithful". Much closer, isn't it? --188.17.160.161 12:34, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

*triwwiz can't be a cognate of this word, it doesn't match up in form. The Balto-Slavic word, being mobile-accented, must come from a preform with ending accent, *-ós. —Rua (mew) 13:03, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
