Morphology[edit]

Can someone find a reputable recent source for the reconstruction of this term as an a-stem? All the major etymological sources for Germanic, and all papers discussing it that I've seen so far, cite it as either an u-stem or an (a)n-stem (just contamination from *uhsô? But several respectable indoeuropeanists seem to agree on an original an-stem) or both at different stages. (The loan into Latin doesn't illuminate much, as Latin nouns in -us can be from Germanic forms in -az or -uz and probably others, and it's possibly not even of Germanic origin.) I see no reason to give primacy to the assumption of an a-stem. The page should probably be moved to *ūruz accordingly, with *ūrô as an "alternative reconstruction" page. — 69.120.64.15 05:49, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
