Not sure if the etymology here is correct[edit]

So, like it says in the title, I'm not sure if the etymology is ultimately correct here. I know this is Lehmann's idea (Lehmann 1986:153 apud Kroonen 2013:171) but I think, bearing in mind there are likely extra-Germanic cognates in Avestan gava-, Khotanese (ā)guv-, and Ossetian kau, (see Bartholomae 1961:509 s.v.) that we probably have to push the reconstruction back to late PIE, to something like *ghowi- (although there are some issues with the stem-vowel correspondences between the Germanic and Iranian forms and there must have been analogy at work in one of the branches). I'd like to know what the author of this page thinks, but I don't think it can be an intra-Germanic innovation as the current etymology by Lehrmann suggests.
