@Sokkjo I hadn't noticed earlier that you moved this page. What reason is there to think that the combining form of *upp should have been *uppa-? Or why do we not also reconstruct the prefix *upp as *uppa as well? ᛙᛆᚱᛐᛁᚿᛌᛆᛌ ᛭ Proto-Norsing ᛭ Ask me anything 23:39, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Mårtensås: Chiefly because without it, PG would likely have dissimilated *-ppC- to *-pC- by the time it got to PWG, but also because it had a tendency to add a final vowel in prefixes that didn't end in a sonorant (and *z, I guess). -- Sokkjō 00:57, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
