Root categorization[edit]

Should derived stems really be categorized as "roots"? I suspect that putting these in e.g. the root shape categories is a bit counterproductive. The "perfective roots" category on the other hand should maybe be called "perfective stems" instead. --Tropylium (talk) 17:27, 11 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm gonna pull @CodeCat in on this. Normally, we consider root extensions to be roots of their own right as they behave like a fully fledged root. —JohnC5 22:04, 11 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Pretty much this. I've also seen very few sources that describe methods of deriving roots from other roots; I've never seen this y-suffix explained anywhere in detail for example. A lot of times that sources derive roots from other roots, it's more or less ad hoc. —CodeCat 22:28, 11 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
