Dutch, German cognates?[edit]

Could Dutch "deerne" and German (both: (young) girl; prostitute), and Proto-Germanic "*þewernon-" (servant-child) be cognates? Refer to http://www.etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/deern .Redav (talk) 13:44, 11 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Utterly implausible – the *-w- would remain unexplained. See *þewernǭ. The link you refer to actually gives the correct explanation (it does not even mention *ter-); you should have read it. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 18:57, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
