@Fay Freak, Profes.I.: The Akkadian is referring to some kind of food; there is good formal fit, but the semantics are simply made up. The Ethiopian forms would have to be highly irregular, so I have reservations even about PWS. Perhaps we should be creating Proto-Central Semitic entries after all, to house entries like this? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:09, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • I do concur firstly that the Akkadian semantic range is a stretch, I mean its not entirely impossible as you say. Often times we do look to West Semitic languages, in addition to context, to determine our best glossing, fill in the gaps. Secondly, that it would be better to be more specific with our entry pages in times like these in order to house reconstructions such as this. It plays it safer to only place the one's we feel confident of together. Maybe if inclined including an additional note indicating the speculated or less substantiated associations would be appropriate in this and similar cases. So less official inclusion, and never hurts to include more content so long as it seems reasonably relevant. Profes.I. (talk) 17:00, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
