The primal meaning of this word in all daughter languages was camp or stature. It is also used to denote various primitive machines like looms, mills, crushers, threshers, etc. The common denominator between all of them is that they have frame-like structure, hence, I gave frame as a primitive meaning, too (even though it is not directly attested in any of the descendant languages). The actual Common Slavic word for a frame was *stanina or *stanъkъ which are both derivatives of *stanъ, so there is genuine basis for the proposed translation.
