Similar words meaning "name": Japanese "namae" — This unsigned comment was added by 85.76.35.87 (talk).

Not really "similar" because of the different vowels, and if you just glanced at the etymology of 名前 (なまえ, namae), you'd realize it's a complete coincidence. — surjection?06:59, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I figured so. Afterall, the mode of pronunciation for "namae" is iambic, as opposed to most (all?) indo-european and my native finnish. (I understand virtually nothing about Japanese vowel harmony although, incidentally, I studied Japanese with a private teacher, once a week for 7 years, and then a summer course at Helsinki university.)
People keep reinventing the seeming "Nostratic-ness" of namae though, I bet I could find three sources claiming this exact comparison if I tried (but then maybe I don't care that much). --Tropylium (talk) 00:01, 14 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
