Invented by Sigmund Riefler in 1889.

Riefler escapement (plural Riefler escapements)

  1. A mechanical escapement for precision pendulum clocks, improving on the deadbeat approach by having the energy required to keep the pendulum swinging supplied by bending the short straight spring strip which suspends the pendulum.
