From Latin Sabellus + -ian, pertaining to the Sabelli, an Italic tribe, from Proto-Italic *saβn-, from an uncertain Proto-Indo-European root, possibly *sabʰ-o-, *sₑbʰ-o- (“one's own”), from *swé (“self”).[1][2]
