Etymology[edit]

First attested as sledenake in 1253. Derived from Proto-Germanic *Slado (a personal name) suffixed with Gallo-Roman Latin -iniacas. Not derived from Salinius or *slede (slope, slippery place). Compare Schleidweiler.
