Etymology

First attested as snodelwiic and snedelwike in 1280-1287. Compound of Middle Dutch snodel (poor sod, dummy) and wyc (farmstead, village, settlement). Compare Knollemanshoek, Snel in Snel en Polanen and Snelleveld.
