Etymology[edit]

Stakhanov +‎ -ism, from the name of Aleksei Grigor’evich Stakhanov (Алексе́й Григо́рьевич Стаха́нов), a Russian coal miner whose prodigious output was publicised by Stalin as part of a 1935 campaign.
