@Atitarev, Cinemantique, Wikitiki89, Wanjuscha, Per utramque cavernam, Guldrelokk 1. Shouldn't должен be an adjective, not a predicative? Predicatives are normally invariable, and Zaliznyak says this is an adjective, not a predicative. 2. What are the short forms listed at должный? They don't have the same stress as должен, and Zaliznyak says должный has no short forms. Benwing2 (talk) 22:32, 5 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Zaliznyak is right in that должен (dolžen) and должный (dolžnyj) are separate lexemes with complementary meaning; they do not intervene. должный (dolžnyj) refers, in literary usage, to something that is to be done, and должен (dolžen) can never be understood as its short form, so it shouldn’t be in the entry. Only до́лжно (dólžno) exists – as an adverb. Guldrelokk (talk) 23:05, 5 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, должен is an adjective, до́лжно is a predicative.--Cinemantique (talk) 01:10, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
