@Atitarev, Wikitiki89, Cinemantique OK, I have decided I completely disagree with the current policy of using ɛ in transcription only to indicate an unexpected lack of palatalization. I think ɛ should indicate all cases of lack of palatalization. The "unexpected" rule produces a complete mess in this word, where фэнтези is transcribed fentɛzi with the e vs. ɛ exactly opposite to the Cyrillic, and where both e and ɛ are supposed to indicate no palatalization, but there's no way to figure that out except by cross-comparing the Cyrillic and transcription. The transcription should stand on its own and not be dependent on the Cyrillic in this fashion. Benwing2 (talk) 03:29, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I agree; and I think Anatoli might have mentioned previously that he also agrees. Let's fix it. --WikiTiki89 03:32, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
OK, as long as Anatoli agrees I'll go ahead and fix Module:ru-translit. Benwing2 (talk) 03:37, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
So, you're changing for only in the positions after consonants "consonant" + э/е (when no palatalisation happens)? Tentatively agreed but the community reaction to using "ɛ" more often may be very negative. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 04:17, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
That's right. I think there's no need in проекция or гомо сапиенс or in initial э- because there's no ambiguity. If we're agreed then I think we can handle any community reaction. Benwing2 (talk) 04:21, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
