@Fay Freak, is there actual usage of this word to mean "basilisk" or "dragon"? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 19:20, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Metaknowledge Not aware. I only know “snake”. Since it is the normal word for the snake and snakes are common in the Arab world, I cannot find other senses if they exist. I wouldn’t add the sense “dragon” anyway if it were found, it seems like the occasional peripheral sense, because there is no reason why a dragon shouldn’t be called a snake if it is a lifeform of phantasy anyway. And if a snake is an architectural feature, a free translations might make it a basilisk, but … why do you need that? Fay Freak (talk) 19:53, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Fay Freak: The question chiefly pertains to Thuban (=Draco). The same idea underlies Microtuban, which is not at all serpentine. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 19:56, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Metaknowledge الثُعْبَان (aṯ-ṯuʕbān) = Alpha Draconis, a part of Draco, Draco being اَلتِّنِّين (at-tinnīn, literally “the dragon”). Fay Freak (talk) 20:05, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
