Big text@AryamanA, माधवपंडित What should we do in this situation? Similarly in Marathi and Gujarati, फळ/ફળ is treated as the 'correct' Sanskrit form. DerekWinters (talk) 16:56, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Particularly this is related to how we should treat sa-alt in producing forms in Gujarati, Oriya, Modi, etc. DerekWinters (talk) 16:57, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@DerekWinters: If the issue of treating "phaḷ" as the correct Sanskrit form is restricted to tatsamas, this is a non-issue. If there was a Sanskrit prayer with the word "फल" in it, would it appear in a prayer book written in the Gujarati script as "phala" or "phaḷa"? If "phaḷa" would be written, we have indeed a small problem before us. -- माधवपंडित (talk) 17:17, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@माधवपंडित: You're right, this may not be an issue. I'm not entirely sure. Do you know what form is used in Marathi/Konkani/Kannada prayer books? DerekWinters (talk) 17:22, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@DerekWinters: Marathi and Kannada prayer books use the original spelling; eg. मण्डल (maṇḍala) as opposed to मंडळ (maṇḍaḷ) etc. Kannada, like Marathi and Hindi uses ಅಂ (aṃ) as a generic symbol to denote a nasal, the actual realization of which depends on the consonant that follows; but in prayer books, the symbol for the nasal (ṅa), (ña) etc is used. -- माधवपंडित (talk) 17:28, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@माधवपंडित: Ah ok, sounds good then. DerekWinters (talk) 17:30, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
