Teochew

[edit]

@The dog2 Did you even read what I wrote? I clearly said it's not mi1 si1 because it's not two mid level tones (the same tone for both syllables). Are you sure you know Teochew tones? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 18:49, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: My understanding is that Hokkien and Teochew tone 1 are more or less the same, while Teochew tone 5 has a higher pitch. And tone 1 has tone sandhi when it is the first syllable, so if both syllables are tone 1, the first syllable will have a slightly lower pitch. The dog2 (talk) 19:04, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2: The sandhi pattern is different in Teochew. When there are two tone 1 syllables, the first syllable's change is minimal (33 -> 23); it becomes slightly rising but ends up at the same level as a standalone tone 1. Some sources don't even consider it to be changed. I don't think you know the tones well enough to add pronunciations. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:12, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung Do you know which tone is the first syllable? [1] (39:52)? The dog2 (talk) 00:50, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@The dog2: I think it's mi3 si1, but I'm not sure. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 06:38, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
