Millet?

@Justinrleung, Frigoris, ‎沈澄心 I don't want to bring this to RFV, but does 穀子 really refer to millet in general or specifically "foxtail millet"? The following are definitions of 穀子 given in various dictionaries:

• 现代汉语词典：一年生草本植物，茎直立，叶子条状披形，有毛，穗状圆锥花序，籽实圆形或椭圆形，脱壳后叫小米，是我国北方的粮作物。
• 现代汉语规范词典：粟。一年生草本植物，叶条状披针形，穗状圆锥花序。籽实圆形或椭圆形，未去壳时也叫谷子，去壳后叫小米。
• 汉语大词典：即粟。粮食作物的一种。子实去壳称小米。
• 國語辭典：植物名。禾本科狗尾草屬，一年生草本。莖直立，葉線狀披針形，有毛，穗狀圓錐花序，穀粒圓形，脫殼後叫小米，為糧食作物。也稱為「粟」、「粱」、「小米」。

There are many types of millets, including the proso millet (Panicum miliaceum), known as 黍 in Chinese, and finger millet (Eleusine coracana), known as 穇子 in Chinese. It appears that 穀子 does not refer to those species. RcAlex36 (talk) 14:29, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

@RcAlex36, from personal experience, I've heard people speaking northern Mandarin referring to the common (presumably the foxtail one, native to Northern China) millet as the 穀子. I don't know about the taxonomic intricacies, though. --Frigoris (talk) 15:25, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
