First definition[edit]

What does "tartar horn" mean? If it refers to a horn played by Tartar people, then Tartar should be capitalized. 69.81.158.23 20:24, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good question. Is from CEDICT, via the Unihan DB; at some point it was written TARTAR HORN and then converted to lower case. Should be investigated. Robert Ullmann 05:54, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Almost all the references are to CEDICT, or Unihan, or Wiktionary ... if someone can source this quote in Han characters: "A tartar horn tugs at the north wind, Thistle Gate shines whiter than the stream, The sky swallows the road to Kokonor. On the Great Wall, a thousand miles of moonlight." - Li Ho, 'On the Frontier', 9th century, then we might have some more confirmation. For now I'm going to capitalize it; there is a Tartar horn, and we could use that entry too. Robert Ullmann 06:01, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
