Etymology and Pronunciation

There seems to be disagreement over the correct pronunciation of "鼠蹊" and whether it's "shǔqī" or "shǔxī". Some dictionaries such as http://dictionary.pinpinchinese.com/search/t/%E9%BC%A0%E8%B9%8A and http://www.zdic.net/c/0/29/62047.htm list both pronunciations whereas others such as https://chinese.yabla.com/chinese-english-pinyin-dictionary.php?define=%E9%BC%A0%E8%B9%8A ("shǔxī"), https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E9%BC%A0%E8%B9%8A/4829038 ("shǔqī"), and https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E9%BC%A0%E8%B9%8A#Chinese ("shǔqī") list one.

In at least one traditional Chinese video (featuring a TV episode) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGoWveClUSg&t=4m46s, it seems to be pronounced "shǔqī". (The word is helpfully shown written when spoken.)

Given this ambiguity, I'm leaving "鼠蹊" in the "shǔxī" "Compounds" section for someone more knowledgeable to address even though I just added it to a newly‐created "shǔqī" "Compounds" section. Patrick Dark (talk) 04:04, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

@JustSomeGuy Only shǔxī is correct: both Xiandai Hanyu Cidian (image) and Taiwan's Ministry of Education's Revised Chinese Dictionary (link) list the pronunciation as shǔxī. Etymologically it is named 鼠蹊 as it resembles in appearance to the depressed path (蹊, xī) leading to a rat hole. pinpinchinese is not a reliable source; the first pronunciation on zdic is autogenerated and incorrect; and baidu is not a reliable source either. In the video you linked to, she said it three times shortly after it started (4:48, 4:49 and 4:55), and all were shǔxī. I will fix the pronunciation at 鼠蹊. Thanks for noticing it.
