Don't some fundamentalist Christians believe it's a real place? Tagging it as fictional could feasibly be controversial. Equinox 20:05, 22 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Some people believe Atlantis is a real place too. Perhaps a category like Mythological locations or Legendary locations would placate the credophiles? ~ Röbin Liönheart (talk) 20:17, 22 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
IMO, our glosses should relate to usage of words rather than the reality or acceptability of their referents. Equinox 22:10, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Right. Phrases like "in Christianity", "in Genesis", "according to popular tradition", or whatever depending on the context, will show where the idea comes from. Whether it's fact or not, need not and should not concern a lexicographer. "Fictional" and such tags should be used with caution and certainly never when it touches on the beliefs of world religions. Simply respecting the conviction of fellow human beings is one important thing; but you're absolutely right that it's not just that: it's also important for the definition of a world itself. Because if a considerable number of people consider some thing to be a reality, then, socially, it is a reality. 2.202.159.25 00:44, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
