Is the word, "Jayhawk" copyright protected or can I use it freely in advertising without the copyrighted logo bird or emblem?
- A word can't be copyrighted. Nobody can harm you for mentioning it. (Having said that, the rules might be different if you give the misleading claim that your product or service is associated with the Jayhawks when it isn't.) Equinox ◑ 02:11, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Verb and Etymology[edit]
it's my understanding that jayhawk can be used as a verb, 'to Jayhawk' is to make an attack etc, but I think 'Jayhawking' still has connotations of marauding about causing trouble— less of a specific target.
Regarding the origin of the word, is there a solid source at all? I thought it was originally vaguely derogatory with the whole "jay" thing, but they could be unrelated, though I do think to origin of jaywalker was the KC Star. anyways thx for your time. Leona <3 (talk) 09:41, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
