From a quick perusal of Forvo, I'm getting the impression that while this name is pronounced in the UK like its spelling variant "Johnston" (similarly to other shortenings in -ton from -town), the American pronunciation and, more surprisingly, the Australian one is actually "John-stone" (rhyming with "stone", probabbly due to the influence of the spelling).
