Tagalog Etymology

@TagaSanPedroAko Isn't this just "Legazpi" with a Tagalog spelling? I don't think "seseo" si relevant here, unless the spelling first existed in Spanish, and then we borrowed that specific spelling. Mar vin kaiser (talk) 23:17, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

@Mar vin kaiser: For the surname, yes, it exists as a variant in Spanish itself, but mostly one originating from the Philippines. It's some respelling from the original either due to yes, that seseo thing (Philippine Spanish does feature that), illiteracy, or both. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 23:25, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

@TagaSanPedroAko: Ok I looked at Google Books and the spelling "Legaspi" does appear in Spanish text, but all of them in the Philippine setting. So I think the etymology for this can be from Spanish "Legazpi", possibly through Philippine Spanish seseo variant "Legaspi".
