- Is the etymology being νικάω ("I conquer [people]") correct? I have always seen the etymology listed as νίκη ("victory [of the people]") instead.

- Random House Dictionary and the Online Etymology Dictionary both confirm the etymology should be "victory [νίκη] of the people," not "I conquer people." Also listed on Behind the Name.
