Internet Archive vs Google Datenkraken[edit]

@Sgconlaw I've noticed that you replaced a link to the Internet Archive with a link to Google Books, and seen this happen in a few other cases as well. Is there a particular reason for doing this? I think it would be better to link to non-commercial/ad-supported sites, which are less likely to track and profile visitors. – Jberkel 19:19, 6 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I had created {{RQ:Dante Cary Vision}} and was applying it to instances in the Wiktionary where this work is cited. (In this case it turned out that the work was not cited as a quotation but as a reference, but since I had the information about the first edition (1814) of the work from the template I thought it would be desirable to update the reference. (I believe the original reference mentioned here, to a work published by Frederick Warne, is a later edition.) I generally create a quotation template where (1) the first edition of a work is available online; and (2) the work is quoted (or is likely to be quoted) multiple times in the Wiktionary (for example, it is a work by a well-known author). I hadn’t thought about the difference between Google Books and the Internet Archive, to be honest. Usually I just use whichever site has the clearest version of a work. Also, I have a slight preference for Google Books because the Internet Archive sometimes numbers pages erratically. — SGconlaw (talk) 02:14, 7 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Mistranslation[edit]

The title of this entry is actually a mistranslation. Ogne modifies speranza, not voi - “every (all) hope,” not “all you.” There is no entry under the correct phrasing. -DrGaellon | Talk 05:54, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

What about all hope abandon ye who enter here? Jberkel 07:24, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Strongly agree that this is a mistranslation. Really wish it would be changed as the current title drives me crazy Tschwitzer (talk) 13:50, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Rather than a mistranslation it's probably a deliberate change to form an iambic pentameter (a-bán-don hó-pe vs all hó-pe á-ban-dón). But you're right, this should be mentioned on the page. Jberkel 20:27, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
