@Lingo Bingo Dingo, Morgengave, Rua, Mnemosientje, Appolodorus1 – I have the impression that this adverb often, perhaps more often, is used to signal a turn of events, such as a change of mind, or a turn of fortune. For example: Nadat Airbnb eerder dit jaar vol op de rem trapte, heeft het verhuurplatform nu alsnog besloten papieren in te leveren om naar de beurs te gaan.[1] It does not make sense in the context to say that the company “has still decided to get a listing”. - I agree with your interpretation and in fact I am hard-pressed to think of examples with the sense "still" that do not go along with negative polarity. The supplement of the WNT is very helpful in this respect, it turns out that unmarked use in the meaning "still" is outdated in the Netherlands.

I did not find any examples though in a cursory search in online Belgian or Surinamese newspapers. The first hit in De Ware Tijd, “Verkeersslachtoffer alsnog overleden” (two weeks after a traffic accident took place), shows IMO that the WNT is wrong in characterizing this sense as indicating “something that has not yet taken place”. I cannot think of an equivalent English term. Sometimes “now” works (“After Airbnb put on the brakes, they have now decided ...”), but in many cases it does not. --Lambiam 23:21, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, that part is not quite right. I'd say that the meaning in Verkeersslachtoffer alsnog overleden is close to "after all", so basically a turn of events or a turn of fortune. Perhaps it is still used dialectally/regionally in the old sense in some parts of the Netherlands, but I don't recall it being used in the general standard language of the Netherlands nor in the dialects in my part of the Randstad.
