There are 0 hits for اواني in all the 20 dictionaries compiled in lisaan.net. I have written of a more plausible etymology in avanie which I hope will aid clearing things for the English lemma as well (although I found not the meaning of the Turkish term because I don’t know Turkish):
- From Greek αβανιά (avaniá, “defamation, slander”), from Turkish avan, from Arabic خَوَّان (ḵawwān, “unreliable, traitor”).
- What is being asked for here? The lemma is already cited. It looks like you are asking for a verification of the etymology. Perhaps the Etymology scriptorium might be a better place for this. Kiwima (talk) 21:21, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
- My bad: I thought requests for verification entailed verification of etymologies as well, but now I know better
