Could the use of this word as in "having a barney" be derived from the New Testament account of St. Paul & St. Barnabas having a heated argument? (Acts 15:36-41)

Use in the film "Clueless"[edit]

Cher referring to Tai's friends at the mall: "I don't know where she meets these barneys!" Apparently meaning an inferior or stupid male. It may possibly have been invented as teen slang for the film, though (compare the "make fetch happen" line in Mean Girls). Equinox 12:39, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
