The french word "bis" borrowed by russians also has a meaning of "improved variant / attempt". Notably, it's used in aviation: MiG-15 was the original soviet jet fighter and MiG-15bis added power-assisted steering to make it more flyable. Last soviet version of the famous MiG-21 fighter jet was labelled MiG-21bis, because within the similar-looking fuselage its innards were essentially replaced: brand new engine, new radar set, new navigation systems, etc. 92.249.156.26 16:59, 10 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
