Trisyllabic pronunciation[edit]

I've always mentally parsed this as ending with the agentive suffix -er, and just never really wondered about why it has an extra -i-. The difference between the diphthong and the hiatus sequence is subtle, but Im pretty sure the people around me (and I've worked in retail a long time) have been predominantly using the trisyllabic pronunciation as well.
