Hi, I'm posting two sources here for my clape entry, one of which I used, one of them I found later. I used a French-English dictionary from 1905/1909, ed. by James Boielle, Cassell and Co. Ltd, page 106. You will find the <sluice> entry in those references and others. clape is also a conjugation of the French verb claper, but that's a different word. Alex 20:18, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

I think the noun clape (sluice) is derived (etymology) from the verb claper, but I don't have a reference for the etymology. Alex 20:52, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
