The term for a male duck and a dragon are not etymologically related and should be separated.

Yes and no. Drake is seemingly a doublet. OE for drake was ened. The meaning male duck showed up umbe 1300 from an unknown (at least unknown to me) upspring. However the cognates in Frisian, Dutch, and German all point to the same root. --AnWulf ... Ferþu Hal! 20:39, 17 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
