The Chuvash word ашак of the same meaning and, most likely, etymology as the Turkish word shares the same sh sound. If the words had derived from a common Proto-Turkic root, the sh sound would have reflexed as a l instead of the sh, which goes to show that the Proto-Turkic etymology is not the case, and it is most likely that the words are loanwords from Old Armenian, adding to the fact that donkeys were not of Turkic proximity thus could not have a Proto-Turkic word. 95.14.137.21 23:45, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
