Expansion of Definition[edit]

This word was also used to mean to massacre/slay/put to death/kill in a general way, and not at all referring to the means used, but I'm not sure if it still means this today. If anyone knows, please add the definition. There are many citations for example in the 1545 Luther Bible. Ex. vnd jre junge Manschafft mit dem Schwert erwürgen 2 Kings 8:12. It's obsolete, but the Deutsches Wörterbuch does indeed mention it. It appears that it was mainly Luther specifically who used it that way, though there are a few examples before and after him. I've added it. 188.96.64.23 00:02, 19 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
