The part about deposit liabilities was somewhat misleading, so I've removed it. Fractional reserve banking allows banks to lend out more than just what their clients have deposited, see https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/022416/why-banks-dont-need-your-money-make-loans.asp I really should have just replaced the original bogus definition in the first place rather than try to rework it.
