According to the definition here, only a denomination can be a free church. But I've come to understand a free church as being an individual church that is not part of any denomination – so I suppose synonymous with nondenominational when applied to a church as opposed to an individual. It's what I've come to believe the term means when part of the name of a church. But puzzlingly, this sense doesn't seem to be in any of the online dictionaries I've checked.
