German[edit]

Ganc is an OHG or some other German word for "assault". But I see no entry for it anywhere.2601:806:4301:C100:94FA:34AF:2E41:D517 16:20, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

From a quick look at some dictionaries, it doesn't seem to exist in OHG with that spelling but in MHG, ganc means Zugang, Weg, Gangart, Art des Gehens, Wildpfad, Fährte, Wildwechsel, Schachzug, Vene, Gefäß, Erzgang, Eisgang, Abgang, Kloake, Abwassergrube, Abtritt, Lauf, Zug, Schritt, Durchgang, Öffnung, gängiger Wert, Lebenswandel;, so, something like a road, entrance, exit, way, path, derived from the verb for to go. Can't find a sense assault, where are you getting this (and are you sure of the spelling)? — Kleio (t · c) 16:24, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Then why is this entry always sited as proof that it means to assault or kill? 2601:806:4301:C100:50EF:2859:A5A2:C8A3 18:41, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Where is it "sited" as saying that? —JohnC5 18:45, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
