girare with essere[edit]

@Imetsia, Catonif Imetsia, are you sure about "to go through one's head" (Un'immagine dolorosa gli girava per la testa) taking essere? This is contrary to what Treccani says in [1] sense 2b figurative (where the following example is given: o che ti gira per la testa ora?). If this is correct, which other senses take essere? Treccani does not identify "to go through one's head" as a separate sense and I'd argue it's just a particular use of "to circulate". Benwing2 (talk) 05:28, 18 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Benwing2 I can confirm that it does take essere in that sense (eg: "Questa domanda mi è girata per la testa da anni"), and I believe also in the sense of the phrase "Dipende da come gli gira", though I'd rarely use a passato prossimo on such senses. I am getting some google hits for "ha girato per la testa", so some speakers seem to have an oscillation, though I don't know how common that is. I'm not sure how it should be handled sense-wise.
