The rather obscure derivation of the term offered seems very unlikely to me. It surely comes from grackle (L. graculus) meaning jackdaw, or including starling depending on which dictonary one consults. If one adds a westcountry accent to the pronunciation it is simple to see why the word has mutated to the modern 'grockle'. The behaviour of visitors who 'flock' to the holiday locations here in Devon is not unlike the noisy crowding behaviour of either bird. ADOakins (talk) 10:33, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
