Is harrowing really the present participle of harrow? Because the definition of harrow (in wiktionary) does not have any definition related to this definition of harrowing.

- You seem to have misunderstood something. We have two definitions for "harrowing": as a verb, it's the present participle of the verb "harrow" (which has two senses: "To drag a harrow over; to break up with a harrow" and "To traumatize or disturb; to frighten or torment"), and as an adjective, it means "causing pain or distress". —RuakhTALK 18:35, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
