Overnight camping gear

The first definition of the verb form is currently (emphasis added):

1. To walk along a hiking trail, especially a nature/scenic long walk, usually without overnight camping gear.

That seems dubious, considering the Wikipedia entry on hiking; hikes can very much be overnight, in fact a "day hike" is usually denoted as such.

This term seems to have regional variations in definition. Could a more experienced Wiktionarian please have a go at restructuring the definition to reflect this? — This unsigned comment was added by Pmj (talk • contribs) at 19:19, August 22, 2011.
