I'd like to see the verb definition "to cause to arch" added here. User5910 16:03, 8 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

A greedy person "or thing"?[edit]

I'm wondering how we'd cover something like "CPU hog" (a computer program that uses a disproportionate amount of processor time). Equinox 15:59, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

After five years of wondering, I added something of the like. ☺ MuDavid 栘𩿠 (talk) 07:07, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Etymology[edit]

The etymology presented is quite logical[7]; but the origin of HOG is most likely borrowed into Anglo-Saxon at some point from a late Brittonic form *HOCH[5], but imported for the special sense and retained in old English, due to its meaning related to hock variant of hack[6].

[0] means 'Absolutely not; [1] means 'Exceedingly unlikely'; [2] means 'Very dubious'; [3] means 'Questionable'; [4] means 'Possible'; [5] means 'Probable'; [6] means 'Likely'; [7] means 'Most Likely' or *Unattested; [8] means 'Attested'; [9] means 'Obvious' - only used for close matches within the same language or dialect, at linkable periods.

Mama cooked the breakfast with no hog[edit]

In Ice Cube's It Was A Good Day, Ice Cube raps "and Mama cooked the breakfast with no hog." Does this mean "pig-meat"? The music video seems to bear this out by depicting bacon fading into eggs before being served as he says the line.--Simplificationalizer (talk) 13:27, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

slang definition[edit]

Do we need a slang sense for hog meaning "penis"? I know it is often used this way on social media. I do not know the origin of this sense or how old it is.

“I figure if I take up vaping and grabbing the hog during a live musical, they’ll make me a folk hero,” he tweeted, taking an apparent shot at Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) over the controversy stirred in recent days by her actions at a Denver production of “Beetlejuice.” concerning masturbation of a partner in public on tape by a US congressperson. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 23:08, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
