Because of the very biased web definitions, it took me forever to find out what this noun phrase even really means. I know it might be SOP but I do believe the phrase is set; it couldn't be (or at least almost never is) said any other way, and SO many people describe themselves as "hopeless romantics" nowadays, it is extremely commonly used in the context of dating, dating sites even have that as an option for like personality type or something. So... it's time for it to have an entry. PseudoSkull (talk) 08:31, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

My understanding is that a "hopeless romantic" is simply a person who believes in naïve fantasies: a romantic who is hopeless. I could definitely be wrong though. —suzukaze (tc) 08:44, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
A hopelessly romantic person, a desperately romantic person, an irredeemably romantic person? Cf. also "desperately needed" = "sorely needed" = "much needed".
I agree that it's pretty set, though. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 09:16, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@PseudoSkull: About the def, I think there's the idea of naivety and seeing the world through rose-tinted glasses. I'd say it's someone who maintains a very biased and delusional view of love (for example, a man thinking buying flowers and reading poems will make her fall for him), and doesn't see it for what it really is. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 09:27, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Per utramque cavernam Interesting. Perhaps I should bring this up in the Tea room so it can get more attention. PseudoSkull (talk) 16:35, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
